“Anne of Avonlea” is a modest and sensual melody of three notes: rich sweetness of ylang ylang is followed by the clean scent of lavender florets in the sun, with final accords of juicy mandarin. This is a feminine, soft and joyous fragrance, named after the novel by Lucy Maud Montgomery, and the its main character, Anne Shirley, a remarkable young woman working as a schoolteacher in 1900s.
This is an ideal gift for someone who loves classic Victorian and Edwardian-era literature and is a fan of clean scents of botanical origin. This is certainly fresh and bright in the opening – but it’s a good thing that I love ylang ylang, because all I can smell after the first few seconds on my skin is that. Of course everyone’s skin chemistry is different, so I would say don’t knock it till you’ve tried it (if you like ylang ylang it smells nice anyway), but for me this is the least complex of the heroine fragrances.
